The Middle: ‘The Trip’ Preview

Sue finally gets something right and Brick finally gets a girlfriend on the new October 21 episode of The Middle called “The Trip.”

When she successfully sells boatloads of sausage and cheese for her school and still doesn’t receive a deserved trip to the state capitol, Sue fights for acknowledgment of her accomplishment after her mother Frankie encourages her to not let the slight go unchallenged.

Elsewhere, after getting his first girlfriend, Brick realizes that love isn’t at all that grand when your significant other is bossy.

Preview the episode in the following sneak peek, which shows Frankie helping Sue out with her lifelong dilemma — being noticed.

The Middle airs Wednesdays on ABC at 8:30pm ET.

The Middle: ‘The Floating Anniversary’ Preview

Awww! Cutie Brick is sick on the The Middle’s fresh October 14 episode called “The Floating Anniversary.”

But Frankie’s ill youngest child isn’t the only person putting a wrench in her and her husband Mike’s romance-filled anniversary plans.

The couple must also deal with smitten Sue, Axl and his learner’s permit, a couple of “challenging” relatives, and one dog that wears diapers. Well, at least the anniversary will be unforgettable.

Sneak a peek at the episode in the Brick-centric preview and promo videos below. I love that kid and the talented young actor, Atticus Shaffer, who plays him!

The Middle airs Wednesdays on ABC at 8:30pm ET.

Full Seasons for ABC Wednesday-Night Sitcom Newbies

ABC proved today it’s a very, very, very smart network when it announced via Twitter that rookie half-hour comedies Cougar Town, Modern Family, and The Middle have all been awarded a full season of 22 episodes. Nice! The three series definitely deserve the vote of confidence.

And note that Yours Truly (meaning me) called it recently when I noted the apparent lack of enthusiasm for the one remaining sitcom in that two-hour block: Kelsey Grammer’s surprisingly unfunny Hank. Nary a mention of that comedy was made during today’s excellent news, but let’s see what the future brings.

Next on ‘The Middle’: The Cheerleader

After watching the very auspicious and entertaining September 30 premiere, I’m really looking forward to the next episode of ABC’s new Patricia Heaton comedy The Middle, which happens to be October 7th’s “The Cheerleader.”

During the installment, Heaton’s frazzled wife and mom Frankie tries to save her job and avoid financial ruin by organizing a publicity stunt involving a car filled with jelly beans. Really.

Meanwhile, her only daughter Sue learns she needs glasses after she fails tryouts for the swim team. And her adorably weird youngest son Brick starts reading her steamy romance novels when he can’t check books out of the library anymore because Frankie can’t pay a $200 (Yikes!) library fine.

The Middle airs Wednesdays on ABC at 8:30pm ET.

New ABC Sitcom: ‘The Middle’ Premiere Preview

Former Fox Back to You co-stars Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton are together again, albeit on a new network and in two separate comedies that ABC just happened to pair up on the same night.

Patricia Heaton

Following the September 30 the premiere of Grammer’s new sitcom Hank is the 8:30pm ET debut of Heaton’s own new comedy The Middle.

The Everybody Loves Raymond veteran portrays dedicated wife and mother Frankie Heck, who balances work, family, and life in an average suburban American town. Her husband Mike is played by long-time Scrubs cast member Neil Flynn, while acting duties for their children are handled by Charlie McDermott (Medium) as Axl (as in Rose, I suppose), Eden Sher (Weeds) as untalented-but-enthusiastic Sue, and Atticus Shaffer (Hancock) as weird Brick.

During the pilot episode, Frankie hits a roadblock in her career as a car salesperson when she fails to sell a single vehicle; Sue wins a spot in the show choir, although she’s already part of the stage crew; and Brick asks his mom to attend his class presentation dressed as a superhero.

Preview The Middle in the following three videos.
