Community: Series Premiere Preview

Finally, the moment many have been waiting for: the debut of NBC’s new Chevy Chase (Saturday Night Live) and Joel McHale (The Soup) sitcom Community. The big premiere happens tonight, September 17, with the pilot episode.

Chevy Chase/Community 1.01

One of the fall’s most buzzed about new series, Community follows the adventures of a group of misfits who attend Greendale Community College.

The central figure in the group is Jeff Winger (McHale), a fast-talking lawyer whose degree has been revoked. With some help from his fellow classmates, Winger forms a study group that eventually helps the members to learn more about themselves than their course work.

Joel McHale, Danny Pudi/Community 1.01

Jeff’s fellow students include Pierce (Chase), a man whose life experience has brought him infinite wisdom; Britta (Gillian Jacobs), a 28-year-old dropout with something to prove; Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), a sassy middle-aged divorce; Abed (Danny Pudi), a pop culture junkie; Annie (Alison Brie), a high-strung perfectionist; and Troy (Donald Glover), a former high school football star. Rounding out the merry band is Spanish professor Señor Chang (Ken Jeong).

Parks and Recreation: ‘Pawnee Zoo’ Premiere Preview

Amy Poehler & Company are back on September 17 to open the second season of the NBC small-town workplace mockumentary Parks and Recreation. First up is the premiere “Pawnee Zoo.”

Amy Poehler/Parks and Recreation 2.01

During the episode, Leslie Knopes (Poehler) somehow gets the idea that it’s a good idea to join two penguins in holy matrimony…

…in order to help promote Pawnee, Indiana’s local zoo. But, of course, things go wrong, and poor Leslie ends up causing a ruckus among the straight and narrow when it’s discovered that both penguins are the same gender. Oops!

While Leslie deals with that catastrophe, Ann (Rashida Jones) finds herself in a very awkward position when Mark (Paul Schneider) invites her to go see a movie with him.

Sneak two peeks at the season premiere in the following video clips, both featuring always well-intentioned Leslie doing what she does best … whatever that happens to be.

Parks and Recreation airs Thursdays on NBC at 8:30pm ET.

Tina Fey Scores Emmy for Sarah Palin Impersonation

Go, Tina!

Tina Fey, the super-talented creative force behind NBC’s clever sitcom 30 Rock, recently landed a nice reward in honor of her terrific turn parodying Republican politician Sarah Palin during numerous skits at her old haunt Saturday Night Live.

Tina Fey/2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards

On September 12, she received a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in acknowledgment of her spot-on Palin impersonations. The award marked Fey’s sixth Emmy win, and she also has two additional nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series categories for her involvement with 30 Rock.

During her acceptance speech, Fey quipped that her Republican parents “thought the first four sketches were very funny. [But] the last two were, in their words, ‘Enough already.’”

E! Entertainment Television will feature the two-hour 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards special on Friday, September 18, at 1pm ET. Also watch the live 61st Primetime Emmys CBS special on Sunday, September 20, at 8pm to see if Fey gets lucky again with her other two 30 Rock nods.

The fourth season of NBC’s 30 Rock premieres Thursday, October 15, at 9:30pm ET.

‘My Boys’ Set for Season Four

Fans of TBS’ My Boys have been waiting patiently for renewal news since the sitcom wrapped its third season at the end of May. The development we’ve all been waiting for finally became reality this week when the network announced the comedy will be back for a fourth season of nine episodes.

My Boys

TVGuide.com reports Jordana Spiro & Company will return to the tube in summer 2010, at which time viewers will (hopefully) learn the answers to all sorts of burning questions, such as whether PJ and Bobby can make their relationship work, and how long it will take for the entire gang to learn that seeming archenemies Stephanie and Kenny have hooked up.

‘10 Things I Hate About You’ Gets Ten More Episodes

If you’ve been enjoying ABC Family’s new original sitcom 10 Things I Hate About You, then get happy. Just this week, the network added ten more installments to the rookie comedy’s original ten-episode order.

Lindsey Shaw, Ethan Peck, Meaghan Jette Martin/10 Things I Hate About You

Unfortunately, the outlook isn’t as rosy for 10 Things‘ fellow frosh summer sitcom Ruby & the Rockits. According to reports, that show not only didn’t receive an order for additional episodes, but it also won’t continue past its initial ten-episode run. You win some, you lose some.

Based on the 1999 Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles film of the same name, 10 Things I Hate About You stars Larry Miller (Boston Legal), Lindsey Shaw (Aliens in America), and Meaghan Jette Martin (Camp Rock) as the tight-knit Stratford family. The last fresh episode aired on September 8, so stay tuned to learn when ABC Family schedules the show’s return.

Ruby & The Rockits

Ruby & The Rockits stars real-life half-brothers David Cassidy and Patrick Cassidy as small-screen siblings Patrick and David Gallagher, and Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) as David’s musically talented teenage daughter Ruby. The comedy is still airing new episodes, with its season finale currently scheduled for September 22. Catch the last episodes while you can.

‘Meet the Browns’ Moves to a New Time Slot

TBS is shuffling the Tyler Perry sitcom Meet the Browns back to its original 10pm ET time slot, starting September 9 with the hour of back-to-back fresh episodes “Meet the Hubby” (10pm) and “Meet the H.B.I.C.” (10:30pm)

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns

On the first of the two Perry-directed installments…

Miss Edna makes a very special request to Brown when she asks him to pretend to be her husband for the benefit of a visiting old friend. Meanwhile, Sasha and London get into it when London takes Brianna to a concert without Sasha’s permission or knowledge.

Then on “Meet the H.B.I.C.,” it’s Cora’s turn to battle with Sasha when they disagree about who should be in charge of the household. And while they’re busy with all of that drama, Brown takes it upon himself to hold a safety drill at Brown Meadows.

If you’re a Tyler Perry fan, don’t forget to also tune in to the September 9 special The Tyler Perry Show, an hourlong presentation about Perry’s new movie I Can Do Bad All by Myself, which opens on Friday, September 11.

Learn details about the special in the previous post “TBS Presents ‘The Tyler Perry Show’.” It airs at 11pm, immediately after Meet the Browns.

Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns airs Wednesdays on TBS at 9pm and 9:30pm ET.
