‘Sherri’ Closes First Season

December 1st, 2009

It’s been a very successful freshman season for Lifetime’s newest original comedy Sherri, and now it’s time for the sitcom to wrap up its 13-episode rookie run with the December 1 finale “Indecision ‘09.”

Sherri

Needless to say, the installment involves lots of drama that will probably end with a sizable cliffhanger to keep fans panting for more.

The main plot concerns Sherri and her indecision regarding who’s the best man for her: ex-hubby Kevin or new boyfriend Randy. What’s worse, her gal pals Angie and Celia don’t see eye to eye on who the best man for her is, either. Elsewhere, Bart decides to give Summer the gift of a makeover.

There’s no word yet on a second-season pickup for Sherri, but I just have this feeling an announcement will happen eventually. Stay tuned…

Coming up on Lifetime’s rookie sitcom Sherri is the all-new November 17 episode “The Game Changer.”

Brandon Khalil, Sherri Shepherd/Sherri 1.02

When Sherri invites her friends over for a game night so they can all meet Randy (Spin City’s Michael Boatman)…

Celia shows up with her husband Miles (James Lesure, Las Vegas), while Angie and Summer plan to bring dates for one another. However, things get a bit messy when Summer arrives alone and Angie invites her plumber, who she thinks is a suitable partner for Summer.

Later, Sherri begins to wonder about Randy’s character when he gives an answer she doesn’t appreciate to a question.

Next on ‘Sherri’: Four Ladies and a Baby

November 10th, 2009

Life gets tense for the title character on the new November 10 episode of Sherri called “Four Ladies and a Baby.”

Brandon Khalil, Sherri Shepherd/Sherri 1.02

The angst begins when Sherri’s son Bo tells her what every parent wants to hear: “I hate you.”

That admission somehow inspires Sherri to voluntarily babysit Paula’s newborn Julian, whom she later takes to work with her when Summer calls her in for a weekend project: sifting through receipts with Celia and Angie for attorney Bart Peaslee’s (David Rasche, Ugly Betty) forthcoming audit.

That doesn’t sound like much fun, but when the women aren’t busy trying to hide Julian after Bart shows up unexpectedly, Sherri rediscovers her mothering instincts and one of her colleagues reveals she’s could be pregnant.

Sherri: ‘Stronger’ Preview

October 27th, 2009

There’s a lot of new stuff going on with Lifetime’s latest original sitcom Sherri, and the October 27 Halloween-themed episode “Stronger” is just one.

Sherri Shepherd, Malcolm-Jamal Warner/Sherri 1.01

The Sherri Shepherd comedy has been earning higher ratings than its former Tuesday-night companion Rita Rocks, and now that Lifetime has shifted that series to Mondays, Sherri is free to air four back-to-back episodes on Tuesdays.

Yep, you read that correctly. As of today, October 27, Sherri will come on from 9pm to 11pm on Tuesdays, with all of the episodes encores, except for the third, 10pm installment.

The next new episode up is the previously mentioned “Stronger.” Not only is Sherri annoyed as heck when she repeatedly runs into her ex-husband Kevin’s pregnant girlfriend Paula, but she also has to cope with what happens when trick-or-treating time rolls around.

Check out a quick preview below, which also focuses on Sherri’s new two-hour Tuesday-night block. I guess we can expect a Season Two pickup anyday now.

Next on ‘Sherri’ & ‘Rita Rocks’: All in the Timing, Mr. Bassman

October 20th, 2009

Coming up on Lifetime’s Sherri and Rita Rocks are the brand-new October 20 episodes “All in the Timing” and “Mr. Bassman,” respectively.

Rita Rocks

Opening the sitcom hour at 10pm ET is Sherri, followed by Rita Rocks at 10:30pm with very special guest star Duane Martin (All of Us, Out All Night), who just happens to be the real-life husband of series regular Tisha Campbell-Martin (pictured at far right above).

Mr. Martin plays Rita and Jay’s new neighbor Chuck. He immediately gets on their bad side, thanks to his penchant for playing loud music that keeps them up all night long.

Rita first tries to ask him nicely to cut it out by bringing him cookies, which doesn’t work. But when Rita discovers that Chuck plays the bass guitar, she ends up asking him to join her garage band, and that turns out to be a major mistake.

Wish I could provide as many details about the episode of Sherri, but Lifetime hasn’t released a description as of this writing. Better luck next week maybe.

Sherri and Rita Rocks air Tuesdays on Lifetime at 10pm and 10:30pm ET, respectively.

Next on ‘Sherri’ & ‘Rita Rocks’: Dating Dad, The Shape of Things to Come

October 13th, 2009

The Lifetime original comedies Sherri and Rita Rocks finally move to their permanent Tuesday-night time slots on October 13.

Sherri

Sherri opens the hourlong sitcom block at 10pm ET with the new episode “Dating Dad.”

The title character gives up on dating entirely after she has an awful first date with Dr. Gregg (Michael Boatman, Spin City). But, fortunately, Redmond (James Avery, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) steps in and gives Sherri a pep talk that encourages her to try dating again. Elsewhere, Angie confronts her boss’ daughter.

Rita Rocks follows at 10:30pm with the fresh installment “The Shape of Things to Come.” The Clemens clan holds a garage sale to get rid of their junk when Hallie decides to relocate to the attic so she won’t have to share a room with her newest sibling. Meanwhile, Jay inadvertently learns the baby’s gender after a nurse gets in touch to reschedule an appointment.

Next on ‘Sherri’ & ‘Rita Rocks’: There’s No I in Church, Stuck in the Middle with You

October 9th, 2009

Thank goodness we’ve finally reached the end of Lifetime’s sitcom premiere week, featuring new episodes of Sherri and Rita Rocks each and every weeknight. I don’t know about everybody else, but that’s a little too much TV for me.

Elizabeth Regen, Tammy Townsend, Sherri Shepherd/Sherri 1.01

Coming up on October 9 are the final fresh nightly episodes “There’s No I in Church” on Sherri and “Stuck in the Middle with You” on Rita Rocks.

At 7pm ET on Sherri, when an old friend asks Sherri out on a date after she talks about her single status during a standup routine, she decides to tell Dr. Gregg (guest star Michael Boatman of Arli$$ and Spin City) that she doesn’t want them to be an exclusive couple. Elsewhere, Donna refuses to sign Angie and Celia’s late time cards until she receives a makeover.

Next on Rita Rocks at 7:30pm, Rita tries to fix Patty up with one of Jay’s friends after the mail carrier has a string of bad dates. But Patty declines with the excuse that she’s not ready for a regular relationship. Of course, Rita takes the description the wrong way and attempts to prove that her marriage isn’t routine at all by taking Jay to a nightclub while Patty is there.

After the October 9 new episodes, Sherri will air Tuesdays on Lifetime time at 10pm ET and Rita Rocks immediately afterward at 10:30pm.

Next on ‘Sherri’ & ‘Rita Rocks’: Lost Weekend, Welcome to the Working Week

October 8th, 2009

The October 8 episodes of Lifetime’s sitcoms Sherri and Rita Rocks are “Lost Weekend” and “Welcome to the Working Week,” respectively.

Tisha Campbell Martin, Nicole Sullivan/Rita Rocks 2.01

First at 7pm ET on Sherri’s “Lost Weekend,” the title character does her best to get used to the custody agreement when her son Bo spends his first weekend alone with Kevin. Even so, her girlfriends are forced to distract her when she fails and is unable to relax before she verifies for herself that Bo is okay without her.

Then at 7:30pm on Rita Rocks‘ “Welcome to the Working Week,” Rita and Patty give Owen a much-needed full-body makeover to help him apply for and land a job at Jay’s company, and Hallie tries to persuade Rita to kick Kip out of the band.

After the October 9 new episodes, Sherri will air Tuesdays on Lifetime time at 10pm ET and Rita Rocks immediately afterward at 10:30pm.
