Fox Schedules ‘Til Death’ Christmas Day Marathon

December 19th, 2009

If you’ve been wondering whatever happened to the elusive Fox sitcom ‘Til Death, which is currently in its fourth season, wonder no more. After yet another prolonged absence, this one lasting just over two months, the comedy will return on Christmas Day for a two-hour, four-episode marathon.

Joely Fisher, Brad Garrett/'Til Death

According to Fox’s current schedule, the “Christmas present” will feature four brand-new episodes originally from the show’s second and third seasons: “No Complaints” at 8pm ET, “The Courtship of Eddie’s Parents” at 8:30pm, “The Ex-Factor” at 9pm, and “The Buffer” at 9:30pm.

Continue reading for some spoilers for each episode.

No Complaints: During this Christmas-themed episode from the third season, Eddie learns that hiding his feelings makes him physically sick when he and Joy try to quit lying for good. Kenny (J.B. Smoove) is back, too, and he creates all kinds of problems for the kiddies’ parents when he lands a a gig at the mall portraying Santa Claus.

The Courtship of Eddie’s Parents: Mary Tyler Moore veteran Valerie Harper and Rescue Me cast member Jerry Adler guest star as Eddie’s parents Barbara and Al in this unaired episode from the Season Two lineup. Eddie and Joy journey all the way to Florida to visit them and are shocked to learn they’re getting divorced … so that they can acquire medical insurance. Of course, Eddie is against it, and he tries to persuade his mom not to follow through.

The Ex-Factor: Kenny is back for another third-season episode, which features Joy befriending a former girlfriend of Eddie, something that predictably leads to problems. Also, Kenny must cope with the possibility that his own new girlfriend is taking advantage of him when he babysits her children.

The Buffer: In yet another Season Three episode, Kenny moves in with the Starks after his ex-wife kicks him to the curb, and to Eddie’s great surprise, he realizes that Joy is nicer when Kenny is in the house. So, of course, Eddie tries to get Kenny to stay longer, but Joy actually has issues with his bad habits and does her best to reunite him with his ex.

Sherri: ‘Stronger’ Preview

October 27th, 2009

There’s a lot of new stuff going on with Lifetime’s latest original sitcom Sherri, and the October 27 Halloween-themed episode “Stronger” is just one.

Sherri Shepherd, Malcolm-Jamal Warner/Sherri 1.01

The Sherri Shepherd comedy has been earning higher ratings than its former Tuesday-night companion Rita Rocks, and now that Lifetime has shifted that series to Mondays, Sherri is free to air four back-to-back episodes on Tuesdays.

Yep, you read that correctly. As of today, October 27, Sherri will come on from 9pm to 11pm on Tuesdays, with all of the episodes encores, except for the third, 10pm installment.

The next new episode up is the previously mentioned “Stronger.” Not only is Sherri annoyed as heck when she repeatedly runs into her ex-husband Kevin’s pregnant girlfriend Paula, but she also has to cope with what happens when trick-or-treating time rolls around.

Check out a quick preview below, which also focuses on Sherri’s new two-hour Tuesday-night block. I guess we can expect a Season Two pickup anyday now.

New Episodes and Time Slot for ‘Rita Rocks’

October 26th, 2009

Sophomore Lifetime comedy Rita Rocks moves to a new Monday-night time slot on October 26.

Rita Rocks

The sitcom previously aired on Tuesdays, following the new Sherri Shepherd comedy Sherri, but apparently the ratings weren’t so swell.

Maybe Rita Rocks will perform better on Mondays with back-to-back new episodes from 10pm to 11pm ET. Since the second season contains a total of 20 episodes, there are certainly enough installments to go around.

First up at 10pm on October 26 is “Mommy’s Alright, Daddy’s Alright,” featuring guest star Jennifer Elise Cox (10 Items or Less, Lovespring International). She plays Shannon’s teacher Miss Ricker, who tries to convince Rita and Jay to enroll their daughter in another school especially for academically gifted students. Elsewhere, Hallie participates in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer after Rita suggests she try volunteering to lift her mood.

Vogue” airs next at 10:30pm. Rita regrets arranging a fashion show, thanks to Hallie’s interest in fashion design, after she sees the unusual garment Hallie makes for her walk down the runway. Also, Jay overdoes it when he becomes Shannon’s coach for a cup-stacking competition.

Rita Rocks airs Mondays on Lifetime at 10pm and 10:30pm ET.

‘Brothers’ and ‘Til Death’ Take a Brief Break

October 16th, 2009

Friday-night Fox sitcoms Brothers and ‘Til Death are taking the day off on October 16, thanks to Major League Baseball and the first game of the American League Championship Series.

But never fear, fans. Both comedies will return with fresh episodes on October 23, same time, same channel. Or at least that’s what the network is saying right now.

Extra Dose of ‘Brothers’ Coming This Sunday

October 8th, 2009

Freshman multi-camera sitcom Brothers isn’t doing so swell ratings-wise, but that’s not stopping Fox from airing a fresh episode on Sunday, October 11, at 7pm ET, in addition to the regularly scheduled episode for Friday, October 9.

Daryl ''Chill'' Mitchell, Michael Strahan/Brothers

According to The Futon Critic, the weekend installment, called “Lenny,” replaces an encore episode of the animated series Family Guy.

Better still for comedy fans, the episode features three notable guest stars: longtime Rescue Me cast member Lenny Clark and retired professional boxer Mike Tyson, as well as very-much-missed former Everybody Hates Chris star Tichina Arnold. She alone makes the special Sunday broadcast Must-See TV.

Stay tuned to Comedy Centric for more details about both episodes of Brothers airing this week.

‘10 Things I Hate About You’ Gets Ten More Episodes

September 13th, 2009

If you’ve been enjoying ABC Family’s new original sitcom 10 Things I Hate About You, then get happy. Just this week, the network added ten more installments to the rookie comedy’s original ten-episode order.

Lindsey Shaw, Ethan Peck, Meaghan Jette Martin/10 Things I Hate About You

Unfortunately, the outlook isn’t as rosy for 10 Things‘ fellow frosh summer sitcom Ruby & the Rockits. According to reports, that show not only didn’t receive an order for additional episodes, but it also won’t continue past its initial ten-episode run. You win some, you lose some.

Based on the 1999 Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles film of the same name, 10 Things I Hate About You stars Larry Miller (Boston Legal), Lindsey Shaw (Aliens in America), and Meaghan Jette Martin (Camp Rock) as the tight-knit Stratford family. The last fresh episode aired on September 8, so stay tuned to learn when ABC Family schedules the show’s return.

Ruby & The Rockits

Ruby & The Rockits stars real-life half-brothers David Cassidy and Patrick Cassidy as small-screen siblings Patrick and David Gallagher, and Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) as David’s musically talented teenage daughter Ruby. The comedy is still airing new episodes, with its season finale currently scheduled for September 22. Catch the last episodes while you can.

‘Meet the Browns’ Moves to a New Time Slot

September 9th, 2009

TBS is shuffling the Tyler Perry sitcom Meet the Browns back to its original 10pm ET time slot, starting September 9 with the hour of back-to-back fresh episodes “Meet the Hubby” (10pm) and “Meet the H.B.I.C.” (10:30pm)

Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns

On the first of the two Perry-directed installments…

Miss Edna makes a very special request to Brown when she asks him to pretend to be her husband for the benefit of a visiting old friend. Meanwhile, Sasha and London get into it when London takes Brianna to a concert without Sasha’s permission or knowledge.

Then on “Meet the H.B.I.C.,” it’s Cora’s turn to battle with Sasha when they disagree about who should be in charge of the household. And while they’re busy with all of that drama, Brown takes it upon himself to hold a safety drill at Brown Meadows.

If you’re a Tyler Perry fan, don’t forget to also tune in to the September 9 special The Tyler Perry Show, an hourlong presentation about Perry’s new movie I Can Do Bad All by Myself, which opens on Friday, September 11.

Learn details about the special in the previous post “TBS Presents ‘The Tyler Perry Show’.” It airs at 11pm, immediately after Meet the Browns.

Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns airs Wednesdays on TBS at 9pm and 9:30pm ET.

‘Louie’ and ‘The League’ Coming to FX

August 23rd, 2009

Basic-cable network FX is on a roll these days when it comes to adding new comedy series to its popular primetime lineup.

Archer

This week comes word that two new half-hour comedy series will be onboard soon, joining current sitcom staple It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the recently picked-up animated spy comedy Archer (pictured above), which features voice work from Jon Benjamin (Important Things with Demetri Martin), Judy Greer (Miss Guided), Chris Parnell (30 Rock), Aisha Tyler (Ghost Whisperer), and Jessica Walter (Arrested Development).

The first of two new live-action series is Louie. Written and directed by comedian Louis C.K., the show integrates sketch and standup segments to depict the life of a New York-based, newly divorced father of two girls who juggles parenting, dating, and his successful career as a standup comedian. The series is set to premiere in early 2010 with 13 episodes already ordered.

The second greenlit series is The League. To explore the themes of “marriage, male friendship, parenting, suburbia, and growing up or refusing to grow up,” it follows a group of men who enjoy participating in fantasy football.

The League’s talented ensemble cast members include Katie Aselton (The Office), Mark Duplass (The Intervention), Nick Kroll (Worst Week), Steve Rannazzisi (Samantha Who?), Paul Scheer (Human Giant), and newcomer Jonathan Lajoie, and the show is slated to debut this November with an initial order of six episodes.

Welcome to the FX original-programming family.

Many Comedies in the Works at FX

August 9th, 2009

Basic cable’s FX is gearing up to add a slew of comedies to its primetime slate, which currently includes only four-season-old It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

The network has already filmed pilots for two half-hour sitcoms: one currently called Louie, which features comedian Louis C.K. in a series of sketch and standup segments, and the other a half-hour sitcom called The League, which follows a group of men into fantasy football.

Variety reports FX has a few more comedies in development, as well, and the network has also ordered six episodes of the animated project Archer. That half-hour spy series will launch in the fall with voice work from Jon Benjamin (Important Things with Demetri Martin), Judy Greer (Miss Guided), Chris Parnell (30 Rock), Aisha Tyler (Ghost Whisperer), and Jessica Walter (Arrested Development).

FX’s last original comedy, Testees from Fall 2008, aired all 13 episodes ordered and subsequently bit the dust. The shows now in development would help raise the network’s comedy profile, while also helping to take up some of the slack left behind by departed crime drama The Shield and outgoing medical dramedy Nip/Tuck.
