Entourage: Just One Week Until Spike TV Premiere

Mark those shiny new calendars, Entourage fans. The Emmy-winning HBO comedy is establishing a second home next week on the male-oriented basic-cable network Spike TV, which will begin airing the series in syndication on Tuesday, January 12, at 9pm ET.

It looks like Spike viewers can catch the show on Tuesdays during hourlong, back-to-back sessions, which will repeat afterwards at 11pm. There’s also even a chance that episodes will air in their original order, considering that premiere night will feature the pilot “Entourage” and the second episode “The Review.”

And since the network has acquired the rights to every single episode of the comedy — past, present, and future — it’s just a matter of time until Entourage begins airing every darn day, or thereabouts.

In addition, fans can also get excited about the comedy’s eventual return to its home network HBO. It was renewed for a seventh season back in July of 2009 and is slated to resume presenting new episodes some time in 2010.

Visit Spike TV’s Entourage website for more information about the fan favorite’s off-network presence.

So Long, ‘Flight of the Conchords’

The bad news for fans of the quirky HBO comedy Flight of the Conchords dropped on December 10. That’s when the series’ creators published a post on their website announcing the end of the show after just two seasons.

Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie/Flight of the Conchords

The series hasn’t been canceled by its home network HBO, however. Instead, the cancellation comes courtesy of the show’s New Zealand-based co-creators and stars Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie and co-creator and director James Bobin.

Said the three in a joint statement: “[W]e’ve noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won’t be returning for a 3rd season. We’re very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.”

The announcement doesn’t reveal exactly why Clement, McKenzie, and Bobin have decided to walk away from a well-received albeit cult show, but The Hollywood Reporter attributes the premature goodbye to the fact that all three still live in New Zealand, which makes filming a series for American television more difficult.

Not that many television actors and showrunners have the luxury of calling it quits on their own terms, and not that many would end their own show even if they could. So, I guess you could call this a brave choice. Fans will surely understand, and as the guys said themselves, they’ll still exist in real life.

And if that’s not a big enough event in and of itself for fans, there’s also the fact that the episode, called “Seinfeld,” features the cast of, well, Seinfeld.

That’s right. The entire cast of the former NBC sitcom will be on hand to help David & Company do it right and go out in style. That means regulars Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards.

During the episode, a returned favor ends up jeopardizing Larry’s alone time with Cheryl. Check out a quickie clip below, featuring David at work with his old Seinfeld pals. That diner and apartment sure look familiar.

But that’s not the only reason the installment is notable. The next episode, November 8th’s “Take a Dive,” happens to be the comedy’s first-season finale.

Elsewhere, George refuses to take Jonathan’s sage advice and pays the price when he publishes a negative editorial about Richard Antrem (returning guest star Oliver Platt, Huff), who subsequently goes into a rage at the local bar.

Jonathan’s latest case requires him to get back a sex tape that a female escort has been using as leverage to extort money from a married guy who lives in New Jersey. But when he and a very high — as in “a kite” — George and Ray finally corner the woman in a motel room, she tries to blackmail Jonathan, as well.

The amateur sleuth’s main problem then becomes whether stoned George and Ray can manage to prevent the escort’s violent brother from kicking his butt. Oh, the suspense!

Jonathan investigates “The Case of the Lonely White Dove” on the October 18 episode of HBO’s successful new sitcom Bored to Death.

Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis/Bored to Death

Despite what you might think, the title refers not to a bird, but to a nightclub singer known as the Lonely White Dove.

When an in-love Russian parolee asks Jonathan to locate said chanteuse, the detective first drinks lots of vodka at her place of employment, a restaurant in Brighton Beach, and then convinces Suzanne, Ray, and Leah to have dinner with him there the next night, although they have no idea what he’s really up to.

And while that’s happening, George tries to boost his failing magazine’s sales by tapping into his inner woman.
