Neil Patrick Harris Directs Next ‘How I Met Your Mother’

January 15th, 2010

How I Met Your Mother fans are in for a real treat during the January 18 episode “Jenkins,” which happens to be directed by none other than series star Neil Patrick Harris, who’s making his directorial debut with the installment.

How I Met Your Mother

Also of note is guest star Amanda Peet (The X Files: I Want to Believe, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) as the title character Jenkins.

While Robin deals with the discovery that she has inspired a drinking game that’s all about her, Marshall copes with Lily’s refusal to believe that his pretty coworker Jenkins kissed him. So, I wonder just how far Marshall will have to go to prove to his wife that what he says happened actually happened.

Take a look at the “Jenkins” promo below, and you can also learn more about Harris’ experiences as a first-time director in his recent TV Guide Magazine interview. It’s a good read.

How I Met Your Mother airs Mondays on CBS at 8pm ET.

Fox Schedules ‘Til Death’ Christmas Day Marathon

December 19th, 2009

If you’ve been wondering whatever happened to the elusive Fox sitcom ‘Til Death, which is currently in its fourth season, wonder no more. After yet another prolonged absence, this one lasting just over two months, the comedy will return on Christmas Day for a two-hour, four-episode marathon.

Joely Fisher, Brad Garrett/'Til Death

According to Fox’s current schedule, the “Christmas present” will feature four brand-new episodes originally from the show’s second and third seasons: “No Complaints” at 8pm ET, “The Courtship of Eddie’s Parents” at 8:30pm, “The Ex-Factor” at 9pm, and “The Buffer” at 9:30pm.

Continue reading for some spoilers for each episode.

No Complaints: During this Christmas-themed episode from the third season, Eddie learns that hiding his feelings makes him physically sick when he and Joy try to quit lying for good. Kenny (J.B. Smoove) is back, too, and he creates all kinds of problems for the kiddies’ parents when he lands a a gig at the mall portraying Santa Claus.

The Courtship of Eddie’s Parents: Mary Tyler Moore veteran Valerie Harper and Rescue Me cast member Jerry Adler guest star as Eddie’s parents Barbara and Al in this unaired episode from the Season Two lineup. Eddie and Joy journey all the way to Florida to visit them and are shocked to learn they’re getting divorced … so that they can acquire medical insurance. Of course, Eddie is against it, and he tries to persuade his mom not to follow through.

The Ex-Factor: Kenny is back for another third-season episode, which features Joy befriending a former girlfriend of Eddie, something that predictably leads to problems. Also, Kenny must cope with the possibility that his own new girlfriend is taking advantage of him when he babysits her children.

The Buffer: In yet another Season Three episode, Kenny moves in with the Starks after his ex-wife kicks him to the curb, and to Eddie’s great surprise, he realizes that Joy is nicer when Kenny is in the house. So, of course, Eddie tries to get Kenny to stay longer, but Joy actually has issues with his bad habits and does her best to reunite him with his ex.

As a result, he’s forced to seek help from his ex-wife Allison’s wealthy boyfriend Howard Needleman, who’s played by returning guest star Rob Huebel (Human Giant).

And, of course, longtime viewers know just how much Gary is going to enjoy doing that.

The source of his troubles is Gary’s decision to buy a boat just so he can help his son Tom show off for a girl. Bad idea right out of the gate, dude. And, predictably, the poorly planned scheme goes oh so wrong.

Molly Shannon Guest Stars on ‘The New Adventures of Old Christine’

December 16th, 2009

The brand-new December 16 episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine has the lovely title “It’s Beginning to Stink a Lot Like Christmas.” How’s that for holiday cheer?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus/The New Adventures of Old Christine

Making the episode extra merry is Saturday Night Live veteran Molly Shannon, who joins fellow SNL player Michaela Watkins as guest stars.

Lucky Christine. After she reluctantly decides to go to her neighbor Jeannie’s (Shannon) holiday-themed block party, she learns a juicy secret that I’d bet lots of money she’s not going to be able to keep. And, of course, Watkins is around to reprise her role as Matthew’s girlfriend Lucy.

Take a quick peek at the episode in the following promo clip.

Next on ‘Two and a Half Men’: Warning, It’s Dirty

December 14th, 2009

As CBS accurately puts it, legendary TV producer/writer/actor Carl Reiner (The Dick Van Dyke Show) guest stars on the fresh December 14 episode of Two and a Half Men called “Warning, It’s Dirty.”

Charlie Sheen, Angus T. Jones, Jon Cryer/Two and a Half Men

The showbiz veteran plays the well-matched role of Marty, a famous television producer.

The main focus of the plot is Charlie’s attempts to teach Jake how to be unfaithful while his girlfriend is out of town for the holidays. Gotta love the industrious, dedicated Harper men — they know what they want.

A brief promo clip for “Warning, It’s Dirty,” featuring Reiner and lots of holiday gear, follows.

Two and a Half Men airs Mondays on CBS at 9pm ET.
