Next on ABC Sitcoms: ‘Scrubs’ and Double ‘Better Off Ted’

The Scrubs and Better Off Ted Burn-Off continues on ABC on January 12 with one fresh episode of the former and two fresh episodes of the latter.

Better Off Ted

First up at 8:30pm ET is Better Off Ted and “The Impertence of Communicationizing,” which features former Saturday Night Live player Chris Parnell. Continue reading for more details about that episode and the other new ones.

Better Off Ted | 8:30pm

The Impertence of Communicationizing: Work life at Veridian Dynamics gets profane when a wayward typo in a memo instructs employees to begin using lots of obscenities. And while Ted tries to get that unfortunate situation under control, Veronica worries that her recent promotion also resulted from a mistake and was meant for a colleague instead.

Scrubs | 9pm

Our Stuff Gets Real: Lucy is initiated into performing surgery, and J.D. and Elliot get schooled in what life is like with a baby.

Better Off Ted | 9:30pm

The Long and Winding High Road: Former Worst Week star Kyle Bornheimer guests as Ted’s workplace rival Pete. Although Ted decides to give Pete the benefit of the doubt after they both come up with similar projects, Veronica’s not having it and she sets out to undermine Pete’s work.

Better Off Ted and Scrubs air Tuesdays on ABC.

Next on ABC Sitcoms: Double ‘Scrubs’ and ‘Better Off Ted’

ABC’s Not-So-Great Scrubs and Better Off Ted Burn-Off continues on Tuesday, January 5, with two fresh episodes of each series, giving viewers four times the comedy pleasure and twice as much funny as usual.

Scrubs

The veteran sitcom Scrubs will air on the hour at 8pm and 9pm ET, while the newer comedy Better Off Ted will air on the half-hour at 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Follow the jump for episode descriptions and spoilery stuff.

Scrubs | 8pm

Our White Coats: Elliot gives Denise some help in the romance department, and the Winston University medical students must decide why they want to become doctors before they finally get their official white coats.

Better Off Ted | 8:30pm

Beating a Dead Workforce: Guest star Merrin Dungey (The King of Queens, Alias) returns as Sheila just in time for the death of a Veridian Dynamics employee, who passes away during a huge project. As a result, always crafty Veronica attempts to use the incident as motivation for other employees to work harder.

Scrubs | 9pm

Our Couples: Lucky Lucy runs into all sorts of couples while working at the hospital.

Better Off Ted | 9:30pm

Change We Can’t Believe In: Poor Ted is haunted by a security guard (Chip Chinery, 3rd Rock from the Sun) who idolizes him mercilessly, and Lem and Phil are haunted by the possibility of working alone with Veronica for the very first time.

Scrubs and Better Off Ted normally air Tuesdays on ABC at 9pm and 9:30pm ET, respectively, but ABC is tinkering with air times in January to quickly burn off new episodes of both comedies. And, yes, you know what that most likely means — this just might be the long goodbye.

Ring in the New Year with ‘Better Off Ted’ and ‘Scrubs’

Happy New Year, lovely Comedy Centric readers! ABC is kicking off 2010 and the new decade with fresh episodes of both Better Off Ted and Scrubs from 8:30pm–9pm ET on January 1.

Scrubs

First up is Better Off Ted and “The Great Repression,” which features fabulous returning guest star Merrin Dungey of Alias and The King of Queens fame. She appeared in the Season One episode “Get Happy” and will reprise her role as Sheila.

Veronica steps in to “assist” Ted and Linda when Sheila gets confused and accuses the pair of sexual harassment. Unfortunately, Veronica’s “solution” involves branding such behavior a disease, which implies Ted and Linda just can’t help themselves and, therefore, shouldn’t be held responsible for their misconduct. Of course, their colleagues are thrilled when they learn about the new free pass system, and much havoc ensues.

Next on Scrubs at 9pm is “Our New Girl-Bro.” While Elliot attempts to help exhausted Lucy by giving her a dose of good advice, Turk searches high and low for a brand-new best friend. Awww!

Better Off Ted and Scrubs normally air Tuesdays on ABC at 9:30pm ET and 9pm ET, respectively, but ABC is mixing things up in January while burning off remaining episodes of both comedies as quickly as possible.

I know — that really, truly sucks, especially in the case of fun and quirky Ted. Fingers crossed this isn’t the end, but things don’t look too good at the moment.

The Middle: January 6 Double Episode Preview

ABC has a special treat coming up for fans of the fantastic rookie sitcom The Middle, which stars Patricia Heaton. When the comedy returns for the winter season on January 6, viewers will get to watch two new back-to-back episodes. Woot!

Patricia Heaton

The first episode premiering at 8pm ET is called “The Jeans,” and it features daytime soap opera veteran Mandy Musgrave of Days of Our Lives as a guest star.

The senior Hecks must deal with their two teenagers when Sue decides she needs a cool pair of jeans to fit in with the cool crowd at school and Axl decides he wants a car so he can make a good impression on a girl he likes. Meanwhile, the couple also reluctantly lets Brick care for his aunts’ dog Doris in order to help him learn how to be responsible.

The second fresh episode is “The Neighbor” at 8:30pm, which features guest star Brooke Shields (Lipstick Jungle) as Rita Glossner, the Hecks’ slutty neighbor and Frankie’s rival. She becomes an issue after Sue has an encounter with her sons, which leads Frankie to worry that more trouble might be ahead. Meanwhile, Frankie’s own sons battle to out-bribe each other, and smart Brick eventually triumphs over his older brother Axl.

Sneak a peek at both episodes in the two preview clips below: Dog from “The Jeans” (Brick vows to take good care of his aunts’ dog … sort of) and Confrontation from “The Neighbor” (Mike and Rita get into it).

Next on ‘Better Off Ted’: It’s Nothing Business, It’s Just Personal

Better Off Ted

The episode features the return of guest star Mark Deklin (The Ex List), who plays icy Veronica’s memorable magician boyfriend Mordor.

Predictably, when he arrives back in town again, Veronica’s mind is on anything but work. As a result, she becomes one of the few slackers at Veridian Dynamics, which inspires Ted to butt his nose where it doesn’t belong in order to get her back on her toes.

Meanwhile, Lem becomes spooked that he’s missing the big picture when, out of the blue, he receives a red lab coat that vividly contrasts with the white version everyone else wears. What could someone possibly be trying to tell him?

Better Off Ted airs Tuesdays on ABC at 9:30pm ET.

ABC’s breakout hit Modern Family returns on January 6 with a brand-new episode called “Up All Night.”

Modern Family

Even better, the comedy opens 2010 with guest star Benjamin Bratt of Law & Order fame.

Elsewhere, Claire is forced to get her husband Phil emergency treatment when a bout of kidney stones hits him, and Mitchell and Cameron have a difficult time training Lily to sleep.

ABC has already put out a sneak peek at “Up All Night,” featuring a pissed off Gloria and a quick look at the episode’s big guest star. Kudos to Modern Family’s show runners for the excellent casting.

When she arrives in town, she gets busy immediately having an affair with Dr. Bhamba (The Knights of Prosperity’s Maz Jobrani), while her son goes crazy.
