Will Arnett and James Franco Hang Out on NBC Sitcoms

NBC’s Thursday-night sitcom lineup presents the first new episodes of 2010 on January 14.

Amy Poehler/Parks and Recreation

Helping out to make the comedy block extra funny are Parks and Recreation guest star Will Arnett (Arrested Development) and 30 Rock guest star James Franco (Spider-Man movie franchise).

Also of note is The Office’s absence at 9pm ET to make room for a double, back-to-back dose of 30 Rock.

Community starts the programming at 8pm with “Investigative Journalism,” which takes place after Greendale Community College’s winter break. When the students return to resume the academic year, they learn someone new has arrived, and they also must decide if a classmate is good enough to become a part of their group. In addition, Jeff takes on a new role as the Greendale Gazette Journal’s editor.

Parks and Recreation follows at 8:30pm with “The Set Up,” which features Tropic Thunder actor Justin Theroux, along with Arnett. Theroux plays a friend of Ann who raises insecure feelings in Mark, and Arnett plays Ann’s colleague and the blind date of his real-life wife’s character Leslie.

The first 30 Rock episode at 9pm is the one with Franco called “Klaus and Greta.” Jack attempts to undo a disastrous New Year’s Eve mistake, Jenna helps Franco’s character hide a huge secret by staging a fake relationship with him, and Tracy learns to love the ladies even more.

The sitcom block closes with the second 30 Rock episode, “Black Light Attack!,” at 9:30pm. Liz and Jack compete for the attention of her romantic interest Danny (Cheyenne Jackson), Jenna tries to score an acting gig on Gossip Girl, and Tracy adds Sue (Sue Galloway) to his entourage.

30 Rock: ‘Secret Santa’ Preview

I promise this isn’t an error. The fresh December 10 Christmas episode of 30 Rock has the same exact title as the Office episode that precedes it: “Secret Santa.” Don’t ask me why.

30 Rock

Film actress Julianne Moore (Freedomland, Hannibal, Boogie Nights) guest stars on this version as the long-ago high school object of Jack’s affections.

Jack has the unexpected chance to hook up with her again when he discovers her profile while wetting his feet on an online social networking website.

Meanwhile, Liz attempts to find the ideal gift for hard-to-please Jack, Kenneth struggles with resistance from his colleagues when he tries to arrange a Secret Santa gift exchange, and Jenna is dismayed to learn her Christmas solo may not be so solo this year.

Take a look at the lone sneak peek for the episode below, which features Liz and Jack.

30 Rock airs Thursdays on NBC at 9:30pm ET.

Next on NBC Sitcoms: December 3

All four of NBC’s Thursday-night sitcoms debut new episodes on December 3.

The Office

Community kicks things off at 8pm ET with “The Politics of Human Sexuality,” which features lots of Britta action.

Not only does she challenge Jeff to find a date for his double date with Pierce and his latest girlfriend, but she and Shirley also teach Annie about anatomy in anticipation of her health fair presentation.

Parks and Recreation follows at 8:30pm with “The Fourth Floor.” After Leslie inadvertently sees Tom and his “green-card” wife Wendy in divorce court, she and their other colleagues try to cheer him up.

The Office presents “Scott’s Tots” next at 9pm. While Michael deals with having to confess he can’t keep a promise he made to a group of children a decade ago, Jim tries to boost office morale with an Employee of the Month program.

The sitcom block closes at 9:30pm with 30 Rock’s oddly titled “Dealbreakers Talk Show #0001.” Liz learns what Jenna has to put up with when her new talk show Dealbreakers goes into production, Jack becomes determined to make the show succeed in spite of Devin’s (Arrested Development’s Will Arnett) antics, and everybody pulls together to help Tracy prove he’s committed to his wife Angie (Sherri and The View’s Sherri Shepherd).

Next on NBC Sitcoms: November 19

Coming up on November 19 are new episodes of each of NBC’s four Thursday-night sitcoms.

Amy Poehler/Parks and Recreation

Community opens the comedy block at 8pm ET with “Environmental Science.”

Jeff gets into a difficult situation when his fellow students enlist him to befriend Señor Chang in order to convince the teacher to stop assigning so much homework. However, those same students get miffed later when they realize Jeff is receiving special attention from his new friend Chang.

Troy and Abed also run into a problem of their own when their biology lab subject disappears. Sneak a peek at “Environmental Science” in the preview clip at the end of this post.

Parks and Recreation comes next at 8:30pm with “Hunting Trip.” While Leslie deals with the consequences of trying be one of the guys by inviting herself on Ron’s yearly hunting trip, April and Andy strike up a friendship back at the office while the other employees are gone.

The Office and “Shareholders Meeting” follows at 9pm. While Andy, Dwight, and Oscar accompany Michael to a shareholder meeting in New York, Jim learns how difficult it is to get Ryan to actually do work at the office.

The comedy block ends at 9:30pm with 30 Rock and “Sun Tea,” which features guest stars Nathan Corddry (United States of Tara) and Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live). Liz faces new living arrangements when her apartment building converts to condominiums, Jack and Tracy have parenthood on their minds, and Kenneth devotes himself to greening TGS.

Next on NBC Sitcoms: November 12

All four of NBC’s Thursday-night sitcoms have brand-new episodes coming up on November 12.

Community

Community gets the party started at 8pm ET with “Debate 109” and funny returning guest star John Michael Higgins (Raising the Bar, Kath & Kim), who reprises his role as sneaky yet clever Professor Whitman.

After he and Dean Pelton persuade Jeff to participate on the debate team for a championship meet against another college, the disgraced lawyer gets an unpleasant surprise in the form of an obnoxious opponent who challenges his oratorical skills. Also, Shirley isn’t happy about Abed’s seemingly prophetic films, and Pierce hypnotizes Britta to help her quit smoking.

Next at 8:30pm is Parks and Recreation with “The Camel.” Pawnee employees compete to create a new mural for City Hall after the old one is vandalized, and Andy and Ron have a close encounter at a shoeshine stand.

The Office and “Murder” follows at 9pm. Michael’s behavior is even odder than usual, which causes the office workers to wonder if he’s finally lost his mind completely, and Andy deals with his awkwardness in order to hook up with Erin.

The comedy block ends at 9:30pm with 30 Rock’s “The Problem Solvers.” Now that TGS finally has a new cast member, the new guy’s behavior causes Tracy and Jenna to reconsider their attitude towards Kenneth. Elsewhere, Jenna advises Liz to evaluate her situation carefully when Jack offers Liz her very own chat show.

So, Liz and Pete busy themselves with rigging the auditions, and Tracy and Jenna begin their own independent search for fresh talent.
