Comedy is an art form and Gallery1988 and FunnyOrDie are back again to prove it. Friday, March 9th, the art gallery located on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood will open its second annual “Is This Thing On?” exhibit, where 100 artists create paintings, prints, sculptures and one-of-a-kind plush all based on their favorite funny people. Take that, The Guggenheim!
In addition, this year the gallery has commissioned 9 different artists to pay tribute to “Weird Al” Yankovic, the greatest song parodist of all-time, by creating a career retrospective screenprint set, where each chronicle the major moments from the legend’s career. Artists like Alex Pardee, Todd Slater, DKNG Studios and Phantom City Creative have produced limited edition, hand screened posters that are influenced by songs like Eat It, Bad, Dare To Be Stupid and Another One Rides The Bus. CRAZIEST PART – Weird Al WILL HOST OUR OPENING RECEPTION on March 9th, from 7-10 PM at the Melrose location. The show will run through March and be viewable, and purchasable online, at gallery1988.com starting March 10th.

DJ or Star Trek Alien Race?
Who’s ready to play a game? OK, fine, no need to be a dick about it, but I’ll just explain it anyway, see if you’re into it after all. It’s called “DJ or Star Trek Alien Race,” and it’s as easy as it sounds. I’ll give you a name and you have to decide whether it’s a DJ (taken from DJ Mag’s top 100 for 2011) or an alien race featured, or mentioned, on any of the 5 Star Trek TV shows. Sound easy? NOPE. It’s not just dubstep or house that sounds like a UFO landing, it’s also their weirdo space names. We’re not keeping score and if you do, you might need to take a step back in life and get into Yoga or something. Good luck.

Band Who’s Played Warped Tour or Twil…
Hey guys! Time to play my brand new game called “Band Who’s Played Warped Tour or Twilight Zone Episode?”
And just like that: I’ll give you a name of something that is either a band that one time in their career has played a stage at the annual music festival, Warped Tour, or the title of an episode from the classic Sci-Fi thriller TV show, The Twilight Zone (the Rod Serling, none of that Forrest Whitaker shit).
Sound easy? IT’S NOT. Those shits are almost exactly the same thing. I assume every kid who’s ever stepped into a Hot Topic and has a tattoo on their neck has also named their band on New Year’s Day when a Twilight Zone marathon is airing.
